WELCOME TO CHERRYLAND JAZZ
The Cherryland Jazz Society is interested and active in encouraging local musicians, especially young students, to learn and play traditional jazz. We also recruit older musicians to form traditional jazz bands such as the Back Room Gang and the Front Street Jazz Band, both of which perform regularly in Traverse City.

In the news
The American Rag, trad jazz’s national news and information paper, which was published in California, has been passed on (and renamed) to another publisher in Utica, NY and is now called The Syncopated Times. It’s slightly revamped and still a gold mine of jazz events and festivals around the U.S. Definitely worth subscribing to if you’re a jazz lover. Subscriptions can be had for $30 per year. Just write:

Trad jazz on radio has become pretty scarce for dixieland fans, but here in Traverse City we're lucky to be able to tune in to "Jazz from the Tradition" on WNMC (90.7 FM) every Sunday afternoon from Noon until 2 p.m. Hosted by Fred Nelson, the program features big band, swing, original jazz, and the many styles of traditional jazz.
Fred, a knowledgable jazz historian, has great commentary to match the music. Take a listen.
